This is an important article. It appears today on the front page of USA Today. Initially I was discouraged when I read it, thinking that more young people are turning away from the church. As I thought about it, however, I am grateful that so many folks describe themselves as spiritual.
The fact that three-quarters of the young folks out their recognize the spiritual reality of their lives is important. Curiosity alone might be enough to motivate many of them to seek out the meaning of that spirituality. The human experience takes place where the spiritual meets the material. As people seek fulfillment to their spiritual yearning, they are likely to come across human manifestation of that spirit. We Christians call that the Incarnation, that is, God made man. God gives us truth that is tangible, a truth we can know.
Young people are seeking, so don't hide your faith. Share it with others. If you work with young adults, or 'millennials' as the article calls them, proclaim your faith. Start with actions, use words if necessary. Those around you are watching and listening. You can have a big impact on their lives. Help them to make something meaningful of their spiritual curiosity.
